Boerne shopping splits into two districts plus everyday anchors. The Hill Country Mile is the walkable historic downtown of independent boutiques, bookstores, and antiques along Main Street, and Boerne Town Center at I-10 and Christus Parkway is the newer open-air retail district where national chains are opening, including a Sprouts Farmers Market projected around 2027. For daily groceries, residents use the H-E-B plus! on West Bandera Road and the Walmart Supercenter on South Main.
Boerne shopping breaks into two distinct areas, and knowing which one serves which need makes a home search easier. The Hill Country Mile is the walkable historic downtown of independent boutiques, bookstores, galleries, and antiques along Main Street, while Boerne Town Center is the newer open-air retail district at the I-10 and Christus Parkway interchange where national chains are opening. For daily errands, the town's anchors are the H-E-B plus! on West Bandera Road and the Walmart Supercenter on South Main, with a Sprouts Farmers Market in development at Town Center. This guide covers what is where so you can see how far the everyday errands are from a specific neighborhood.
Most Boerne residents run errands in one of three places. They browse and shop on the Hill Country Mile downtown, they use Boerne Town Center on I-10 for chain restaurants and the growing retail mix, and they buy groceries at H-E-B plus! or Walmart. The three areas sit within a few minutes of each other by car, so a neighborhood near any one of them is close to all three in practice.
The Hill Country Mile is Main Street through downtown Boerne, roughly from the Kendall County Courthouse down to the Cibolo Creek bridge. It was named to Country Living's Top 25 Small Town Main Streets in America and holds more than 80 locally owned boutiques, antique shops, galleries, and specialty stores, most of them independent.
The shops that come up most in buyer questions include The Boerne Bookshop at 153 South Main Street, Red Rooster at 225 South Main Street, and The Dienger Trading Company at 210 North Main Street, a restored landmark building with dining and retail. Handmade on Main at 347 North Main, Alene's Boutique and So Vain on Main near the south end, Real Fashion Boutique on North Main, CELESTE at 140 South Main, and The Christmas Shoppe at 132 South Main round out the mix, along with multi-vendor spaces like Shoppes at 222 and The Sanctuary for the Vintage Soul for antiques.
Main Street doubles as US 87 through town, so weekend Hill Country traffic shares the road with shoppers. Parking is on-street and in lots behind the shops, and Boerne Market Days at Main Plaza brings a vendor market to the same blocks roughly monthly.
Boerne Town Center is the newer retail hub at the I-10 and Christus Parkway interchange, and it is the fastest-changing part of Boerne shopping. Its first restaurants opened in summer 2026, and a second phase reported at about $12.3 million is underway.
Confirmed tenants include Chipotle, Chicken Salad Chick, McAlister's Deli, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Panda Express, Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, Red Wing Shoes, Playa Bowls, Club Pilates, KFC, Bad Ass Coffee, and Matador Barbershop. The anchor in the pipeline is a Sprouts Farmers Market, Boerne's first, projected to open around 2027. The retail, road, and restaurant details shift as phases open, so the What's Coming article on this site has the running list.
Boerne's two grocery anchors are the H-E-B plus! at 420 West Bandera Road and the Walmart Supercenter at 1381 South Main Street. H-E-B plus! is the larger, newer grocery format and the store most neighborhoods near town use daily, while Walmart covers general merchandise and groceries in one stop on the south side.
The Sprouts Farmers Market at Boerne Town Center will add a third grocery option when it opens, projected around 2027. For home goods, services, and specialty needs, most residents either use the town's local shops or run to the San Antonio stores off I-10 and Loop 1604, which the corridor commute covers in roughly 15 to 20 minutes in normal traffic.
Boerne has a strong antiques scene that draws buyers from outside the county. The Sanctuary for the Vintage Soul at 195 South Main and Johns Road Antique Mall at 850 Johns Road are two of the larger multi-dealer spaces, and Shoppes at 222 adds more vendor booths in an 1890s building downtown.
For a buyer, the antiques and boutique density is part of the downtown's appeal, and it keeps Main Street active on weekends year-round. The trade-off is the same one the events calendar shows: downtown gets busy on Market Days, festival weekends, and holiday weekends.
Where a home sits relative to the three shopping areas affects the daily routine more than most buyers expect. A neighborhood within walking distance of the Hill Country Mile puts restaurants, shops, and the courthouse square close, but on event weekends it also means crowds and parking pressure. A home closer to the I-10 side of town is nearer to Boerne Town Center and the highway into San Antonio, with a longer drive to downtown Boerne.
The grocery question matters most. Because H-E-B plus! and Walmart sit on opposite sides of town, a home on the north side may have a longer everyday drive to the store than to its own neighborhood. Plot the errands you run weekly against a specific address rather than assuming the whole town is one loop.
Tami has sold homes across Boerne and the I-10 corridor for two decades, and she can point out which subdivisions sit close to the daily anchors, which neighborhoods walk to the Hill Country Mile, and which homes trade convenience for acreage or quiet.
She can also separate the development news from the rumor, including what is actually confirmed at Boerne Town Center, so you can weigh a new construction purchase against what the retail and road projects will look like when you close. Her starting point is always the assignment and the commute, then the practical details of where you will actually run errands.
Main Street, which is US 87 through town, known as the Hill Country Mile. It holds more than 80 locally owned boutiques, galleries, antique shops, and specialty stores and was named to Country Living's Top 25 Small Town Main Streets in America.
No enclosed mall. Shopping is split between the downtown Hill Country Mile and Boerne Town Center, a newer open-air retail district at the I-10 and Christus Parkway interchange.
A Sprouts Farmers Market is projected around 2027. Recently opened or confirmed tenants include Chipotle, Chicken Salad Chick, McAlister's Deli, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Panda Express, Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, Red Wing Shoes, Playa Bowls, and Club Pilates, among others.

Yes. Main Street through downtown Boerne is a compact, walkable district with on-street and lot parking. On Market Days and festival weekends it is pedestrian-heavy and the downtown lots fill up.
For most daily needs, no. Boerne covers groceries, restaurants, boutiques, and antiques locally. For big-box variety beyond Walmart, some residents drive to the San Antonio stores near the I-10 and Loop 1604 interchange, roughly 15 to 20 minutes away in normal traffic.
