Buying a Home Near Joint Base San Antonio: What to Consider

Buying near Joint Base San Antonio is really a question about which installation you report to and how you want to spend your commute. Here is what to weigh before you choose an area.

Match the area to the installation

Lackland on the west side, Fort Sam Houston north of downtown, Randolph in Universal City, Camp Bullis to the northwest: each installation points to neighborhoods that make the daily drive work and areas that do not. Your search area should follow from your assignment, not from a general map of the city.

Commute is the detail that decides

A 30 minute drive that is mostly highway can beat a 20 minute drive on a grid of lights. Tami works with military buyers on the actual routes at the actual times, and for remote buyers she maps the commute into the area discussion before any showings.

Compare new construction against resale honestly

Builders market their own homes, and their lenders offer incentives that are hard to compare with a resale house. Look at the full price, the closing cost credits, and the appraised value, then compare against what a similar resale would run in the same area.
